Flower & Patio Show Wildflower/Native Mix Seed Packet Planting Instructions
1. Best Time to Plant – Early Spring is the best time to plant the Wildflower/Native seeds. Plant in Spring after the last frost. Early Fall is acceptable too. October 1st thru July 1st. 2. Select the Proper Site – ‘Sun’ Wildflowers should receive at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. Avoid excessively wet or low areas. 3. Prepare the Site – Remove existing vegetation to clear the area for planting. Till 2” to 4” deep. Avoid tilling too deep as it will disturb weed seeds. Rake the area smooth. 4. Planting the Wildflower/Native Seeds – Spread the seeds evenly over the site. Do not seed deeper than ¼ inch. Use a roller to compress the seed into the soil. If you do not have a roller, walk all over the area. 5. Keep the Area Moist – Keep the site moist but not wet until the seed germinates and is 6 inches tall. Do not always count on rainfall. The newly planted seed bed will need 1 inch of water a week for the first 4 to 6 weeks. 6. Be Patient – It may be hard to tell the difference between the young wildflowers and weeds the first 6-12 months. The Wildflower packet contains annuals and perennials. This way you will have color the first year. The annuals will bloom in one season while the perennials take up to two years to bloom. The perennials spend the first year after germination working below ground on their root systems. 7. Maintenance – The practical method of maintenance is to mow the area in late fall. Mow every Fall for the first three years. Mow every third year after that.
